Residential Care Dorchester

Our Services

Services and support that allow our residents to live life to the full in our Dorchester Care Home.

Glencairn House is a Residential Care Home situated in the picturesque county town of Dorchester. Our Home – a charming, extensively renovated and refurbished Victorian house – provides accommodation for up to 23 residents in comfortable, spacious and well-equipped bedrooms, many of which have splendid views of the trees, lawns and bandstand of the award-winning Borough Gardens.

Who we serve

We aim to provide personalised care and practical support for elderly residents (65 and over) with a variety of health conditions, impairments and needs, including early stage/mild dementia. However, we cannot provide nursing care, and are not equipped to care for aggressive or very challenging behaviour.

What we offer

We offer Residential and Respite Care to the over 65s with a variety of care needs, including early stage Dementia care.

Facilities & Equipment:

We offer residents a spacious and comfortable environment. Our 23 bedrooms range from excellent standard to premium and are luxuriously furnished with ensuite facilities, including assisted toilets and hoists for each room, and private low level access showers in the majority of rooms.

We are able to provide equipment such as profiling beds, air flow mattresses such as the nimbus range or similar pressure relieving equipment to cater for high-risk pressure sores. Any nursing duties that may be required are undertaken by the District Nurses, who we liaise with on a regular basis.

In addition, we offer a large and airy living room area and communal spaces, our own purpose-built salon and treatment room, a secure enclosed garden with large patio space, and laundry and housekeeping facilities. We also have our own full kitchen, offering residents nutritious, home-cooked meals, which can be prepared to suit our residents’ specific health and dietary requirements

Daily Care and Support for Residents

We offer a comprehensive range of care services, including: 24-hour care by fully trained Carers, daily assistance with personal care, access to professional health providers and services as needed, a key worker for each resident, and a weekly programme of person-centred therapeutic activities to aid rehabilitation.

Other Service Options

We also offer additional services for our residents to support their health and wellbeing, independence and general enjoyment. These can include booking appointments for health practitioners, such as physiotherapists, chiropodists etc to visit the resident at the Home or accompanying residents on trips within the community to day centres, doctors’ surgeries, opticians, and the shops. We can also offer assistance with arranging holidays and providing staff (at a cost) if required.

Some of these additional services, such as visits to or from opticians, dentist, physiotherapy or chiropody are paid for privately by the resident or their relatives.

We recognise that all of our residents are unique; and each will have their own specific requirements and needs. Consequently, we will always endeavour to make sure that what we provide to residents is as bespoke and individualised as possible.

“My sister has been a resident since she moved from London aged 93; she is now 99. We, and she, are so so grateful that we chose Glencairn. The staff are so kind and caring and genuinely take the best care of her. As she said, they are not just the staff but her friends, and she knows she’s totally safe. They also keep us both up to date and are very welcoming whenever we visit. We cannot thank them enough for how they managed during the Covid pandemic, and we weren’t able to visit.”
